The fabric used for this hat is based on an analysis of 1970s vintage textiles, reconstructed into cotton to suit modern lifestyles.

While the original vintage material was wool, switching to a cotton base adds ease of care and a lightweight feel, evolving it into a material perfect for daily life.

The fabric is woven in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture.

Known as a region for textiles, it is woven on rare, old-fashioned Schönherr looms that are few and far between today.

The greatest feature of these looms is that they weave at an "ultra-low speed," which prevents unnecessary tension on the threads, allowing the inherent irregularities, thickness, and twist of the yarn to shine through.

This creates a complex and striking stripe pattern with hints of red throughout, resulting in an expression that feels warm and human rather than mechanical.

Furthermore, it is a rare find to have a selvage edge while being woven on a wide 145cm loom.

Because there are few craftspeople left who can operate these vintage looms and they require constant adjustment and maintenance, only a very small amount can be produced per day.

The very fact that it "cannot be mass-produced" speaks to the value of this fabric.

To the touch, there is a comfortable, soft cotton texture with a subtle crispness.

It has minimal stiffness, and the way it ages—transitioning from its initial, dignified look to a more lived-in, familiar feel—is another charm of this material.

Its functionality as a hat is also excellent; it is soft enough to be rolled up and carried compactly, and it is resistant to wrinkles.

It can be worn year-round, feeling light and airy in warmer weather, and providing a comfortable, less stuffy alternative to wool as the air turns chilly.

The shape is a trapezoid, reminiscent of an upside-down bucket.

It sits neatly along the contours of the head, with a silhouette that creates natural shadows as soon as you put it on.
